My Christmas market cruise on the Danube with AmaWaterways was a festive journey through the heart of Europe’s winter traditions. As our ship sailed between iconic cities like Vienna, Linz, and Budapest, the riverbanks came alive with glowing lights, festive shops, and historic squares transformed into bright, magical holiday markets.  Traveling with ten friends made the experience all the more memorable. 

Each stop offered a new seasonal experience. In Vienna, classical music and imperial architecture set the stage for elegant markets filled with handcrafted gifts and sweet pastries. In smaller towns like Melk and Passau,  you’ll find cozy stalls serving warm glühwein, roasted chestnuts, and local specialties that invite you to slow down and savor the moment. AmaWaterways’ guided excursions helped us uncover the stories and customs behind each destination, while still leaving time to wander the markets and collect the unique mugs in each city. 

On board, the ship felt like a floating boutique hotel, decorated for the season and offering regional dishes inspired by the countries we visited.
